From Spain to the UK: Life Update

The next leg of our year in Europe has commenced, and we’ve moved from Barcelona to the United Kingdom! We’re staying a short train ride outside of London in a suburb, and have been here for two weeks now.

As far as adjusting, I love it here! Barcelona was absolutely incredible and I was sad to leave since we were just starting to meet some new friends and established our routine, but being in the UK has felt like a breath of fresh air. Living in Barcelona, I can say I loved it and at the same time found certain things to be a bit frustrating: store hours were unreliable (which is difficult when you don’t have a car), I was getting a little fatigued with the dining options, and I really missed having a clothes dryer (Yes, I know these are all small things, are first-world problems, I wasn’t crying about them and I don’t expect anyone else to feel sorry for me). I was also feeling some intense waves of homesickness near the end of our stay, and just craving some familiarity.

Since moving to the UK, where we live feels similar to where we lived back home, and that familiarity made me feel comfortable right away. I don’t feel homesick anymore, I love the routine we’ve gotten into, and overall just having new places to explore and see. We joined a gym that we love (the one we joined in Barcelona was always crowded and had weird opening times) and the one-hour time difference has us waking earlier, and I feel like I have more hours in the day. Our flat is small but cozy with great heating and a big comfy bed.

Stay tuned for some UK travel guides including London, Cotswolds, Bath, Scotland, Ireland, and more! If there’s anywhere you think I need to visit or want a travel guide from, leave a comment! I’m just so happy to be here, and I hope you look forward to following along!
